Homework Task - Research of a Music Video Director: Spike Jonze
Spike Jonze is a director and producer, specialising in the work of music videos. He is know for colarborations on films such as ‘where the wild things are.’ And is also co owner of a skateboard company who endorse Mike Carroll and Rick Howard.
He started out filming music videos for rock/punk music artists including R.E.M and Weezer as well as many for The beastie boys.
A famous convention he uses within music videos is basing the narrative on a spoof of old tv police dramas such as starksy and hutch. He used this in the video for ‘sabatage’ and rickys theme’ by the beastie boys.
Another convention he uses a lot is having the camera placed on a vehicle near the wheel, to give it a fish eye look and seeing the ground rolling by to show how fast the car is moving. He also uses these camera angles in his skateboarding videos he directs to gain more popularity for his company.
He has been a producer for 7 films including all 3 Jackass movies and 1 television programme.
